so so so.

i havent been able to force myself to deal with paper these days, however, i always have an itching need to keep my hands busy.

so, ive been knitting like a fiend.

went through about 6 or 7 hats, learned how to knit cables, and now im working on a blanket map of the united states.

slowly knitting my way through alaska, texas and florida currently.

if all goes as planned and i dont screw up majorly, itll look like this.

itll be yet another mish mash of color to clash with in my tiny little apartment -

which by the way is slowly turning into a lace/animal print/rainbow pattern/faux fur nightmare.

so its been awhile.

but i am doing things, i promise.

ive been busy working on my quilt - sewing thousands of little squares together.

i now have 47 large squares of 16 little squares finished.

although, im not posting any pictures, because honestly, they are all pretty much the same.

tomorrow, im starting on the next 47, with a new combination of fabrics. so thatll mean

more cutting out squares then piecing them together. yay. ugh.

butt (typo, but it made me giggle like a 7 year old, so it stays), i did over calculate how many i need, so i will probably whip out some matching pillow shams and another mini wall sized quilt.

in other news, i have not picked up a pencil in probably 3 months. i need to start my doodling exercises again. oh well. someday.

i have taken on quite a project.

in nm, i bought scores of sweet glittery skull and japanesey fabrics -

im in the process of cutting roughly 2000 squares to make my first ever quilt.

itll be crazy patterns, vomitting embroidery, glitter and skulls.

im pretty siked.

im hoping to be done by xmas.

so i came back from a visit to new mexico, and was pleasantly

surprised to find everything was skull related, glittahed and sequined.

my next project involves bedazzling the hell out of an

animal skull.

once i can manage to get rid of the nasty bugs living

inside it.

ive got the figure mostly constructed, he just needs a few touch ups

and some legs.

now on to the background. im trying out attaching paper to a canvas.

i think itll be easy enough to stitch through, and will be way more sturdy than

my usual paper or fabric backings.

for quite some time ive had a hankering to make some rooster art.

so finally, i up and decided to do some.

hes only about half done, he still needs his legs, his big green tail

feathers, and im planning some awesomeness for his neck feathers.

what could be better than real feathers on a rooster? ive never worked with feathers

before, so we'll see what happens.

so this week has been busy busy busy.

i had to whip up three illustrations for freelance class

in pretty much one night - something i WOULD NEVER sign up for myself -

but hey, i got them done.

they came out pretty decent, and im putting the flying veggies and fruits one in my portfolio.

in other news, i got my business cards.

theyre pretty. having something physical in my hand with my

name and telephone number on it makes me feel professional.

and i just ordered my postcards.

im getting 4 different ones, because i like options.

that way, if i dont like you - ill give you the one i like the least.

kidding. i love all my art equal. like a parent.

i got a little carried away with the hair, so ill trim a little off the top when i attach her.

i finally decided to get with it and scan my 90% finished llama piece that has been resting on my studio and gathering dust.

ive also been framing my pieces for the all school show. usually when im framing for myself, i find the most obnoxious, gilded, 6 inch piece of gold molding i can, and laugh to myself. i like gaudy. deal.

for my skulls i decided to go with a more southwestern rustic feel - dark wood with black metal accents on the corners.

after listening to irena talk in class about framing and choosing the correct frame for a piece, i realized ive never thought twice about whether or not a piece or a frame match.

oh well. something to try for degree project?

i actually bought my first moleskin sketchbook. i usually only ever buy their graph paper pads and only ever end up writing notes in them.

maybe this will revive my interest in drawing.

well ive been working quite a bit on artistic things.

several things to keep me busy over the break, and keep me from getting all rusty.

im even trying to maintain a "one doodle in the sketchbook" a day thing.

ive always hated sketchbooks, and pre planning.

but im trying.

so ive made some headway on coatlicue. its about 50 percent.

and its going much faster than the first piece, and i think i am much more pleased with the outcome. its more crisp. it makes me happy.

my amy winehouse portrait. im still working on the hair stitching, but otherwise, shes finished.

i like the pin -- my little homage to michael k and dlisted. i think ill send it to him.

im also working on some personal things to keep in practice.

greg suggested yoshi's story, for its patchworky needlepointy backgrounds.

and well yoshis cute. i havent yet started the clouds, but its going.

overall, im trying to produce to make things easier for next semester.

i have the feeling im going to want to die.

little by little, my degree project is developing into just an excuse to insert as many breasts as possible into my final moments at massart. ive been working on my next degree piece for coatlicue.

she just so happens to have massive saggy breasts. 400+ children will do that to you.

im having fun. i enjoy cutting out microscopic pieces of paper and arranging them.

in other news, that benjamin button movie is creepy as all hell. and im looking forward to the day where i no longer have to listen to christmas music at h&m or in the car.

so ive been switching over to my papermaking final.

i spent all day yesterday just stitching a cover for my portfolio and sewing

signatures for my sketchbook. mmmmm. i love mindless, fun projects.

and illustration iv is annoying the hell out of me.

i dont want to do my portrait. and class critiques always make me

want to murder a certain watercolorist in her sleep.

i was looking at some things i did last semester.

for illustration iii we spent the semester doing illustrations for shakespeare plays.

i ended up doing all of my pieces in this weird photoshop/scanned collage technique.

they look very strange compared with the stuff ive recently been doing.

i pretty much would make little things with paper, or needlepoint

then scan in textures and assemble them all in photoshop.

it was interesting, although im not sure they were entirely successful.

for the most part they look too "photoshop-ey" to me

so. im about 75% done with my detour piece, and im quite

pleased with it. so much so that i know at the last minute im

going to spill something obnoxious on it, like grape soda, and ruin it.

i finally scanned my test piece for degree project.

i was sick of looking at it, so i never quite finished it.
